Ada Sink Width Clearance

These regulations adopted revised enforceable accessibility standards called the 2010 ada standards for accessible design 2010 standards or standards.

For wheelchair accessibility the center line of the toilet must be between 16 18 405 455 mm from the wall. The minimum knee clearance must be free of equipment or obstructions for a minimum of 8 inches 205 mm extending from the front edge of the lavatory back toward the wall. Where provided kitchen appliances shall comply with 804 6. At least 50 percent of shelf space in storage facilities shall comply with 811. One of the most important aspects of ada kitchen sink compliance is in regard to clearance. Sinks shall comply with 606.

According to blanco by design a pass through kitchen requires clearance of 40 inches while a u shaped kitchen requires 60 inches for wheelchair clearance. This knee clearance must be 29 inches 735 mm high at the front of the lavatory and no less than 27 inches 685 mm high at a point 8 inches 205 mm back. The department of justice published revised regulations for titles ii and iii of the americans with disabilities act of 1990 ada in the federal register on september 15 2010. To meet ada guidelines sinks shouldn t be mounted higher than 34 inches from the floor and they should have a knee clearance of 27 inches high 30 inches wide and 11 to 25 inches deep.

Clearance around a water closet shall be 60 inches 1525 mm minimum measured perpendicular from the side wall and 56 inches 1420 mm minimum measured perpendicular from the rear wall. Surface and size 305 2 and 305 3 clear floor spaces must meet requirements for ground and floor surfaces including criteria for firmness stability and slip resistance.
